Disk Storage Space
Several directories are available to users for storing their data. These directories offer a range of space capacities and vary in speed due to their differing connection types. Some of the locations can be accessed globally (from all pool computers and compute servers) and some only locally. All options should be considered carefully to choose the best fit for the individual use case:
Overview of the directories for data storage:
Directory | Size | Global/Local | Speed | Features |
---|---|---|---|---|
/dev/shm | 16GB-500GB | local | very fast | RAM-FS |
/home/tmp |
40GB-500GB |

/home/tmp (gruenau[1,2,9,10])

1,8TB | local | very fast | RAID with SSDs/HDDs |
/vol/tmp | 3,6TB | global | medium | NFS |
/glusterfs/dfs-gfs-dist | 116TB | global | medium | GlusterFS (replica:0) |
/glusterfs/dfs-gfs-dist_repl_2 | 58TB | global | medium | GlusterFS (replica:2) |
/glusterfs/pool-gfs-dist | 14TB | global | medium |
GlusterFS (replica:0) |
/glusterfs/pool-gfs-dist_repl_3 | 4,4TB | global | medium | GlusterFS (replica:3) |
$HOME | ø 10GB/User | global | medium |
NFS, backup on tape |
You may access the directories through sshfs and the home directory ($HOME) through Samba/CIFS.
