Researching the Buddhist cave paintings of the Kuča region on the Northern Silk Road
2016 - 2019
This project is the responsibility of the Saxonian Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Leipzig and based at the Leipzig University. In this project, a team of researchers in Asian studies, art history and archeology will be exploring the murals of the Buddhist man-made caves in the Kuča region on the Northern Silk Road. Our role in the project is to design and implement a rich database information system to support the research. The information system will comprehend research results over the next 15 years but also integrate results from already existing sources (e.g. open accessible data at Museums, scientific literature databases, image databases, etc.). The information systems will provide suitable search interfaces for different use cases, providing both classic query systems and new ways to search and visualise information from the special context of the project.
